Glaze Quest -
Copper Age
After years of experience in ceramics and working with commercially available materials that pushed my creative limits, I decided to pursue my ceramic dream. I embarked on research and the creation of my own ceramic glazes.
The Copper Age vase series is the result of this exploration in glaze development. It revolves around a single base glaze, which I modified by adding various forms of copper, refining the application technique, and adjusting the firing curve. The first smaller vases served to test the stability of the glaze, labeled as No. 5 in my recipe book. After successful tests, I applied this glaze to two nearly half-meter-tall vases, where copper significantly enhanced the final effect.
Copper, one of the most commonly used coloring oxides in ceramics, has fascinated me with its ability to produce a wide range of effects and shades. For now, it has risen to the top of my list among the metal oxides I have tested.
