I embarked on research and the creation of my own ceramic glazes. The Copper Age vase series is the result of this exploration in glaze development. It revolves around a single base glaze, which I modified by adding various forms of copper, refining the application technique, and adjusting the firing curve. The first smaller vases served to test the stability of the glaze, labeled as No. 5 in my recipe book. After successful tests, I applied this glaze to two nearly half-meter-tall vases, where copper significantly enhanced the final effect. Copper, one of the most commonly used coloring oxides in ceramics, has fascinated me with its ability to produce a wide range of effects and shades. Both sculptural objects serve a functional purpose and are hand-built using various techniques from two different clay bodies. Pierrot is crafted from butter-colored stoneware, while Harlequin is made from rough chamotte stoneware. The old rose tones on Harlequin were achieved through the use of vintage gold lustres generously gifted to me by the renowned artist Eugenia Lugsova. Although the lustre has lost its original potency, I now use it for coloring the clay; this marks the third occasion since I've reserved the bottle for very special and specific projects. The static sculptures consisting of ceramic pillars and vases do not tell a story but capture the imprint of a living dialogue, a conversation between two women. Encoded, intimate and tied to the moment of creation of the work. The result not only brings functionality but also becomes a carrier of links open for further interpretation. The final product thus contrasts the current era full of virtuality and fluidity, which offers unlimited variations and possibilities. The vases and the bearing pillar elements were all crafted by me, with various hand-building techniques, such as coiling and extrusion into plaster press mold. The collection is made out of stoneware and different high-firing ceramic clays.
